David Mills  (Tampa) – Singing Judge – David’s musical background began as an instrumentalist – specifically, a trombone player leading to a career with the U.S. Army Band from 1974-1994. David joined BHS in 1981, becoming the director of the Suncoast Statesmen in Punta Gorda – later the Coastmen of West Palm Beach – and the Highland Harmonizers of Colorado Springs, CO. He has also sung in various quartets and other ensembles throughout his Barbershop “career”, including his very first quartet, Southern Blend (singing baritone with his dad, Bob Mills), representing the Sunshine district at the 1983 BHS International contest in Seattle. David was first certified as a BHS judge in the Singing category in 1993; has judged on 8 International contest panels; has served on the Singing category Board of Review 3 times – and is now the BHS C&J Singing category Specialist. Although David and his lovely wife, Linda (married since 1974) make their home in Tampa – they can most often be found somewhere “on the road” – since they travel extensively with David’s work, where he is employed as a software engineer and senior principal instructor for Oracle.
