05.03.2008 » Sunshine District 2007 Barbershopper Of The Year Awarded!

Mark Schlinkert has joined an elite company of fellow Sunshine District Barbershoppers with the honor of being selected as 2007 Barbershopper Of The Year in the Sunshine District. This award is well deserved for a man who has devoted many years to this District and the Society in many capacities. Mark currently serves as Sunshine District's Director of Music & Performance while singing in two championship quartets.

Congratulations, Mark!

Andrew Borts reports HotShots have their best contest ever with a 78% average and a qualifying score of 1873. Congrats, HotShots!

01.21.2008 » Bob Boemler Passes Away

Bob Boemler passed away on January 14, 2008, two days after his 88th birthday. His famliy and friends are invited to pay tribute to him on January 26 at 2 p.m. at the Newcomer East Orlando Chapel. He will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetary.

Bob was passionate about Barbershop singing, was an active member of the Sunshine District for over 50 years, a former Director of the Orange Blossom Chorus in Orlando, as well as a District BOTY and Hall of Fame member. Bob's greatest Barbershop accomplishment was as Director of The Miamians when they won the International Chorus contest in Boston in 1965.

Tampa Chapter took first place and will be going to Nashville.

Jacksonville Big O won Plateau AAAA Second Place & Most Improved Chorus. Their scores may be high enough to also qualify for International in 2008.

09.10.2007 » Dr. Jack Brueckman passes away

Our dear friend and mentor, Dr. Jack Brueckman, passed away the morning of August 17, 2007. He fought a very difficult battle against a relentless cancer and he did so with courage and dignity.

In addition to being past president of both Senaca Land and Sunshine Districts, Jack, and Carol of course, have been fantastic in their support of Harmony Foundation.

Jack’s memorial service will be at: 
Punta Gorda Congregational United Church of Christ
1201 Aqui Esta, Punta Gorda, Florida, at 11:00AM on 
Saturday, September 15, 2007.

We will all miss Jack.
